They tried to pack this game with an emotional advantage at Illinois by bringing in the currently serving in Afghanistan Brother of Illini player Meyers Leonard as a surprise.
It didn't work, however. Having Jalen Rose in the ESPN booth was nice enough, but it was not necessary as the Michigan Wolverines played 'up' closer to their potential and won at Illinois for the first time since 1995, hitting 46.7% of their shots along the way.
Coming off that 75-61 loss at home to Purdue, Michigan knew if it beat Illinois, it could still win the Big Ten title with a victory against Penn State on Sunday and an Ohio State victory against Michigan State that same day.
