Detroit Mauls Royals 9-3 at Home
| Prince Fielder hits a little infield chopper that ends up scoring 2 runs on an error. (fielders choice - Error on 1B) |
Kansas City suffered through a 12 game losing streak and had just snapped out of it by winning 2-in-a-row.
The Tigers were limping along with a 2-8 record for the last 10 themselves. This could have been the battle of the fruitless. It ended up being fruit salad for the Tigers and KC was the whipped cream.
Rain clouds have been following the Royals since last week, and it appeared the conditions might develop again, but after a batting clinic put the entire Detroit side at the plate during the first inning it looked more like the team everyone was dreaming of this year.
Rick Porcello settled down a bit and had no walks and gave up only 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 K's in his 8 innings. Add the 14 Tigers crunching hits and 4 by Austin Jackson himself and you've got the makings for a hasty, healthy recovery.
These two meet for the last of this shortened series on Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park (Rain Gods Forgiving) and if you are not carrying an umbrella downtown we can save you a seat at CUBS' AC in the first row. We'll have some Corned Beef Reubens and a variety of your favorite beverages waiting for you.
GO TIGERS
