Baltimore Bites Back

Baltimore Skins Porcello 3-2
Baltimore Orioles' Chris Davis rounds the bases after hitting a three-run home run off Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello in the seventh inning of a baseball game on Saturday.
The Detroit Tigers can be amazingly dull sometimes.  It hurts to say that, but it is true.  If you are lucky enough to go downtown you can wait for the great fireworks show following Saturday night games, but otherwise it can often be hard just to keep your eyes open watching it on the tube.  On this night Rick Porcello was in command for nearly 7 innings of ho-hum baseball and it just did not break our way.
It doesn't help to misplay a ball, either.  This error
did not allow Baltimore to compile runs, however.
Rick Porcello looked like the 'boring but dependable' pitcher - striking out 6 and only walking 1 - until the 7th when the Orioles strung a couple of singles together and promptly knocked them home when Chris Davis hit a home run.  Jhonny Peralta then had the chance to he a hero and tie Baltimore in the 8th, but he messed up and got caught on the base pads.
Rick Porcello heads to the dugout after being pulled in
the 7th.  He had just given up a 3 run homer.
Fortunately the White Sox were also defeated so Detroit remains only 1½ games out.  However - Baltimore padded their hold on the 2nd wildcard playoff spot and won their 4th of the last 6 games.
It's great to get on base yourself, as Prince Fielder did twice.  But
here he strikes out and leaves 2 men aboard.
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder actually got on base 6 times between them (2 walks for Prince) - they just did not all turn into runs - which has been the biggest problem this year.
Miguel Cabrera scores on Jhonny Peralta's double.
The Tigers take on the 'birds' in the rubber game Sunday afternoon and you can watch with us here at CUBS' AC where we are keeping the beer frosty cold in the coolers. Grab a few!
It's COOL at CUBS' AC!
Join us at CUBS' AC (in the bar that faces the giant car wash) and we'll see if the Tigers can win this series against the Orioles.  Watch on our big screens while chowing down on some Pescado Tacos!!
