Tigers Hold On To Beat Blue Jays

They can't take this one away.  The Tigers can claim this series.  That has been the goal for Jim Leyland.  And with Justin Verlander on the mound for the finale Thursday it appears that the Tigers may sweep the Blue Jays to end their contests against one another this season.  They only play each other 6 times this year - in fact, Anibal Sanchez lost to Toronto in July when he was with the Marlins.   But to be honest - the Chicago White Sox are streaking through the AL East against a slightly better team, right now.

  The promising display by newly acquired Anibal Sanchez Wednesday evening allows us a bit more hope as we edge closer to the playoffs.  He proceeded to deal Toronto the 6th consecutive game in which the Blue Jays failed to score more than 3 runs.

The night was not without its moments.  Here Andy Dirks makes a great
catch but proceeds to overthrow 2nd base for an error.

The Tigers survived two errors by the normally staunch RF Andy Dirks - whom had made a great catch earler in the game to steal a home run from Edwin Encarnacion.

    Detroit remains 2 games out of first place behind Chicago, whom they face 7 more times this season.  There are 39 games left to play and the Tigers will have to win the AL Central to make the postseason because so many teams in the East have better records as well as Oakland does in the West.
