Tigers Top Angels for Series Win
The Tigers came back again Sunday. Slow and steady. We just hope that this is an honest trend from effort and not just statistical favor at work. Hope never won any World Series, however. Pitching and hitting did. To watch the crowd at Comerica Park on Sunday you could start to feel something in the making, though, and that is a good sign.
Max Scherzer came back to the mound in the form he last left it. He struck out 9 batters Sunday afternoon - and the Los Angeles batting lineup is nothing to sneeze at. If it were not for the strength and depth of the Tigers lineup this game would have been another disappointment. Instead, it was a joy.
Once Again - Beginning in 2012, five teams make the playoffs from the American League and National League. There are two wild-card teams (the two teams with the best records that did not win their divisions) and three division champions. The two wild-card teams play in a winner-take-all game scheduled for two days after the season ends. The winner of that game goes on to the Division Series to face the No. 1 seed.
Detroit is still 2½ games behind Chicago, whom they will face 7 more times this season. In fact - the Tigers face the Royals 9 more times, the Angels at their home for 3 more, the Twins 6 more, the Indians 6 more and a crucial 3 game set with the Oakland Athletics. There are 35 games left to play and the Tigers may have to win the AL Central in order to make the postseason because both Tampa and Baltimore have better records and the Oakland Athletics are ahead of us in the West.
