Tigers Crank 'em Out of Cleveland

Doug Fister was steady and looked in good form again after
a few weeks on the disabled list this year.

After a long string of 1-run losses we wish that some of the wealth could be spread around from Wednesday night.  The last 9 losses for the Tigers have all been by that small margin.  In the end, Detroit avoided the embarrassing sweep behind a great performance by Doug Fister to stay in the race for the playoffs.  The "doubters" label hangs in the balance, however, since the Tigers are on a 10 day road trip which takes them to playoff contenders L.A. and in the Windy City.

We enjoy these new faces more and more these days.  Earlier it was a pleasure to find Quintin Berry and now we are seeing our home farm system bred Avisail Garcia get his own show going.  It seems we are loading up with Venezuelans!

Andy Dirks is healthy again and is making regular contributions
to the squad just in time for the September push to the playoffs.

As mentioned before - Beginning in 2012, five teams make the playoffs from both the American League and National League. There are two wild-card teams (the two teams with the best records that did not win their divisions) and three division champions. The two wild-card teams play in a winner-take-all game scheduled for two days after the season ends. The winner of that game goes on.

Detroit is still 1 game behind Chicago , whom they will face 4 more times this season.  The Tigers will face the Royals 7 more times, the Angels at their home for 3 more, the Twins 6 more, the Indians 3 more and a crucial 3 game set with the Oakland Athletics.  That makes 26 games left to play and the Tigers may have to win the AL Central in order to make the postseason because both Tampa and Baltimore have better records and the Oakland Athletics are ahead of us in the West.
