Tigers Blowout A's - Still Three Back
You can't spend it all at once. But that is what the Tigers did at Comerica Park Tuesday night. They handed Oakland rookie pitcher A.J. Griffin his first career loss. They slammed 4 home runs and scored 12 times. This stuff we need to spread around a bit better!
The sports rumor mills have Miguel Cabrera eyeing the "Triple Crown" of baseball - the Home Run Crown, The Batting Average Champ and the Most Valuable Player. His chances are greatly enhanced if he continues this remarkable hitting and gets Detroit into the playoffs.
The pressure is really on now and we can't let the Royals become the spoilers that end our season. They are not above that.
Detroit is still 3 games behind Chicago, and likely the best chance will be for a 1-game playoff for the division crown if we get there. The Tigers will face the Royals 7 more times, the Twins 6 more and and 2 more with the Oakland Athletics. The last six games are on the road.
Speaking of the road:
The Fighting Irish disposed of the Spartans in East Lansing last Saturday night in a game in which we're sure the fans' spirits got totally crushed. This is not going to be like last year's come-from-behind victory by the Wolverines because we are playing under the gaze of Touchdown Jesus. What does that mean if you are not going to make the trek down to South Bend?

So....there are 15 games left to play and the Tigers have to win the AL Central in order to make the postseason because Tampa, Baltimore and New York in the East have better W-L records and the Oakland Athletics and the L.A. Angels are well ahead of us in the American League West.
