Tigers Creep to One Back - For Now
We won't win 'em all, that is a given. But you sure have to appreciate the amazing effort going displayed here by so many "unsung" Tigers in these last weeks of the season. The 'Boyz' absolutely killed the Minnesota Twins Saturday afternoon.
When you've got to have it - it seems that the ones you never suspect deliver. Prince Fielder had 3 hits. Alex Avila returned to the lineup with an RBI. We've got to keep the pressure on now and hope that we can cruise through the Royals better than the White Sox did this past week.
Detroit is momentarily 1 game behind Chicago, and likely our best chance will be for a 1-game playoff for the division crown if we can get there. The White Sox have a little tougher path - they still have to play Tampa Bay and L.A. who are both contending for wild card spots. The Tigers will face the Royals 7 more times and the Twins 5 more. The last six games are on the road.
Speaking of the road:
The Fighting Irish disposed of the Spartans in East Lansing last Saturday night in a game in which we're sure the fans' spirits got totally crushed. This is not going to be like last year's come-from-behind victory by the Wolverines because we are playing under the gaze of Touchdown Jesus. What does that mean if you are not going to make the trek down to South Bend?

So....there are 12 games left to play and the Tigers have to win the AL Central in order to make the postseason because Baltimore in the East has a better W-L record and the Oakland Athletics and the L.A. Angels are ahead of us in the American League West.
