The Tigers are closer to winning the division title thanks to the consistent play from Justin Verlander and what seems like the rest of the Tigers following him in step when he is on the mound. Let's just hope that the pitching staff holds together long enough to get back to full strength in time for the playoffs. With the White Sox having been trounced by Tampa, the Tigers find themselves back with a 2 game lead in the division race.
Our record with Minnesota is 9-8 thus far with the season series ending Sunday. In an AL Divisional playoff (assuming we make it, of course) we'll be facing either the New York Yankees or the Baltimore Orioles - one or the other being the wild card team.

Don't look away now! Miguel Cabrera is about to make history if he keeps this up and he will assuredly gain the first "Triple Crown" in Major League Baseball since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
Bucky Trumps Sparty
With the Michigan Wolverines enjoying a bye-week, we got a chance to see how 'Lil Brother was doing against the totally new Buckeye squad under first-year coach (and legend) Urban Meyer. Everyone around these parts thought this was going to be a win for the Spartans, but Coach Meyer showed he could play hard-nose and run up the middle - which he did against the vaunted MSU Defense - and Ohio State took the B1G opener by a score of 17-16.
So.........Detroit is once again 2 games ahead of Chicago. The Tigers play the Twins for the last time Sunday and they face the Royals 3 times on this trip to finish the regular season. Their Magic Number is 3 - that means any combination of Tiger Wins and White Sox Losses totaling 3 and the division is clinched. Whoever finishes 2nd is out because both Baltimore and Tampa in the AL East have a better W-L record and the Oakland Athletics and the L.A. Angels are ahead in the American League West.
