What did it look like in the first half?

The words unbelievable and incredible do not cover it.  

Spike Albrecht became a Twitter Trend in less than 20 minutes while he was knocking down triples in front of an international TV audience.  It seemed the Michigan Wolverines were coming up with weapons that Louisville had never dreamed of.

Someone mentioned that this unassuming guy getting off of the Michigan team bus at the gate to the Georgia Dome did not belong there.  It was the security guard who tried to keep Spike Albrecht from entering the arena!  Little did he know that Spike would be soon coming off of the bench to score 17 points in the first half and putting Rick Pitino and the Cardinals Faithful on notice!

And then the Louisville answer came in.  Luke Hancock.  He stole the ball cleanly away in a Wolverine mid-court transition.  Not only once.  He got a critical (and questionable) foul called against Trey Burke (which incidentally put him on the bench and put in Spike Albrecht) and moments later  - with under 5 seconds to play in the first half - Lousiville had its first lead.

This game saw amazing spurts from both teams, with particular standout performances by Trey Burke - 24 points - as well as from Louisville stalwarts in Gorgui Dieng, Wayne Blackshear and Peyton Siva.  Luke Hancock was the surprise that emerged in this game, however, and he took him Player of the Game Honors.  

Mitch McGary also had 4 fouls and was benched often.

What happened here that we had not seen all season long?  Trey Burke and Mitch McGary in foul trouble.  Was it a strategy?  Was this Rick Pitino's dastardly plan?

The Fab Five did actually appear at the game, but Chris Webber watched it from a suite while the remainder sat together in the stands along with Denard Robinson.

In the end, though Michigan had held as much as a 12 point advantage, the Louisville Cardinals found the answers and their maturity won out over the Wolverines youth to put together a championship.  This was an unforgettable experience and it put respect for the Wolverines on display in front of everybody.

  Never mind.  The Pride is inside.  OK.  There were a few fires burning in Ann Arbor.  That was downtown and isolated.  But largely we just heard car doors shutting (not slamming) and feet shuffling up apartment stairs.  Wait until next year.
