Justin Verlander was very good, but odds were against him
as the Detroit "heavy wood" could not produce a single run.

The Tigers improved slightly from their weak performances just 13 hours earlier, but it was still a far cry from the glorious start they had to this west coast trip.  These "lulls" always come at the exact wrong time, it seems.  As a result, Justin Verlander was dropped to 2-2 for the year, and it was not all his fault.

Kyle Seager was the Seattle hero this night.

Again, it was an unsung hero that made the game.  Unfortunately, that hero was wearing a Mariners uniform.  Kyle Seager went in to pitch hit for Seattle in the 7th inning and made the difference for the 2-0 victory both offensively and defensively.

The Tigers got only 5 hits, and they were all squandered by bad timing and a solid Seattle defense which put together a pair of double plays.  Credit also Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma, who gave up only 3 hits in 70 pitches and also the stronger showing of the Mariners offense coming off from the bench.

This west coast trip may prove beneficial for Detroit if they can continue to win each series (they missed the sweep this time - the Tigers are only 5-11 in Seattle the last 16 times there) but the bats need to get lined up again as they were in those first few games in Oakland.  Kansas City crept up to within a ½ game and Minnesota has put together a string of victories so the AL Central standings remain tight.
