Not bad, but not as good as the last time, Anibal Sanchez gets
the loss after giving up only 3 runs.

Wednesday was basically a gorgeous day at Comerica Park.  All except for the 1st and the 7th inning.  We all wish we could have had those two back.  Instead, the Tigers are dropped out of 1st place in the standings again and their 5-game win streak is snapped by the Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota starter  Scott Diamond kept this Tiger lineup basically quiet.

In a day game you don't find as many fans in the seats during the week (until school is out) and the Tigers actually fare better at night as a rule, but there were chances to pull this game out for another sweep and the chips just did not fall Detroit's way.  Even though the Tigers scratched and clawed and came close in the 6th, the surge was over as Victor Martinez grounds out to end the threat.

The scheduled "day off " for certain players Wednesday by manager Jim Leyland may have been an issue.  There are strong opinions both ways about his decision to rest Alex Avila and insert Bruce Rondon again with the game close at hand.  But the new mid-reliever choked by giving up a very untimely triple and later a walk to load the bases and his tenure in Detroit was finished.

The top of the Tigers batting order shined again but the bottom 6 went 1 for 17.  Having a chance for the Tigers to squeeze back into the contest, Victor Martinez came in to bat in the 9th with both Cabrera and Fielder aboard with no outs ahead of him and he blows the last gasp by hitting into a double play.  Lastly comes Andy Dirks who whiffed for a called third strike and the game was over.

for the Red Wings..........
We'll see if the Tigers can get back on the winning track as they take on the Houston Astros while we wait for the puck to drop in California again Thursday evening late.  You can see it all on the Big H-D Screens at CUBS' A.C. in Ann Arbor.
