The Detroit Tigers picked up just about where they left off during the dismal Interleague stretch when they took the field in Anaheim Monday night. They managed only 5 hits and looked sadly like a bunch of burned out sparklers. Rookie Charlie Furbush got his first start at pitcher (after replacing Coke in the rotation) and the Angels responded by knocking him out in just over 4 innings.
The final score was only 5-1, which is easier to stomach than those 14 and 15 run egg bombs they laid last week, but you can't blame it all on our pitching. The Angels have now climbed into 1st over the Rangers in the AL West because they put on another hitting display and have now won 9 out of the last 11 games.
Cabrera and Martinez combined for a 0-7 evening, which you can credit to some fantastic defensive performances by the host Angels. Our heavy hitters were stifled this time.
They go at it again Tuesday night with Verlander on the mound, but it is a late start. Stop by CUBS' AC for the beginning, anyway....
