Tigers Take Sunday Finale 3-1

Justin Verlander has been pitching with a painful
callus on his thumb for weeks.

Sometimes you've just got to make a gut check.  Hold it in.

Tiger's Ace Justin Verlander has been doing just that for some time, now.  He plays through the pain.  You would not know it by looking at him in any of those commercials he has made since become the newest darling Cy Young TV advertising star.

No matter.  He gets the job done.  Unlike the rest of the Tiger batters who have managed to leave more men on base than there are pink caps and wrist bands on Mother's Day.

It's just the odds, they say.  Hmmm.

Surprisingly, the relievers were effective in covering two full innings and did not give up a hit.  Oakland managed only 2 hits all afternoon after making spectacles of themselves the previous two nights.

Where does Detroit stand now?  They seem stuck at .500.  One year ago they were breaking out of their early season doldrums and were at 21-18 on this date and rolling on a 6-game win streak.

The Tigers visit Chicago Monday night and face John Danks who has been somewhat of a pest the last few years.  We'll be at CUBS' A.C. taking it in on the big screens while clearing out the CO₂ lines the hard way.  From the tap.
