The game was at a normal time for a change.  Normal if you live in the eastern time zone, that is.   Was that because of the respect for the 'oldest rivalry trophy game' in NCAA Football?  No!

It began absurdly at 11:00am local time if you are a Minnesotan.  So much for the TV programming wizards who have taken over game scheduling from the athletic departments and collegiate conferences.  There are those who must believe there is more important stuff to drive to the television media around the nation than a mere century old rivalry and tradition, I guess.

The Little Brown Jug is one of the oldest trophies in NCAA Football.

It was a good game after the first quarter.  The Wolverines managed only 9 yards of offense in the first period, largely due to a seemingly stiff Golden Gopher defensive secondary (who did manage an interception).  Sometimes it was hard not to believe you were playing against a team inspired by the MSU Spartans, though!

  That's right - the Minnesota defense was 'playing for the mistakes' and their coaching decisions were for surprise and glory.  Jerry Kill (what a name!) is no Mark Dantonio, however.  Formerly a Division II coaching standout, the Minnesota head coach has a lot to learn about the Big Ten brand of smash-mouth football.

Becoming nervous while watching first-time starting quarterback Devin Gardner - replacing Denard Robinson in a last minute decision - we were ready to pack it after being thrust into bad field position on every possession in the first quarter.  You could feel and see the intensity of the fans and players at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis.  This was a game they actually thought they could win.

An Honorable Wolverine Spirit prevailed this day.  Despite the aggressive nature of the opposition, the Michigan Faithful were rewarded with the Little brown Jug for the 68th time.  For a change, the Maize 'n Blue showed us that they can do it all.  It is determination and not giving up that continues to make the difference.  Confidence.  Catch It!
