Tigers Continue to Charm Kansas City

Porcello and Ordoñez Push Detroit to 6-4 Win

Another Inge Error?  Yes.  This was just plain bad technique
as he makes his 7th error of the season already.  What's wrong?

It appeared the Kansas City Royals were starting to solidify and play some good ball after they took the series last week against the surging White Sox.  But Detroit has shown they've got some guts of their own and they have now won 3 in-a-row to close within a ½ game of the Indians in the standings.

Magglio Ordoñez hit the 6th pitch of the game like a bullet into the left field bullpen to stake the Tigers to an early 2 run lead that they never gave up for the rest of the night.  A shaky start by Porcello eventually calmed down and he struck out the side in the 3rd inning on his way to his 8th win.  The Royals actually only got 1 earned run this night - due to a relatively soft infield bouncer which Brandon Inge bobbled like a junior high newbie - and it made things look tense at the beginning.


Jose Valverde loaded the bases (as usual) in the 9th for his drama presentation, but managed to extend his major league best record number of saves to 23 by preserving the game again.


In any case, Detroit will now head into the All Star break next week in a strong position to make a run this season after all.  Leyland has been performing surgery on the batting lineup and it seems to be paying off.
