Pirates Beat Tigers Behind McCutchen

Andrew McCutchen is anything but shy.

The old axiom is "Once Bitten, Twice Shy."  But then how do you explain Twice Bitten?  Two words.

Andrew McCutchen.

On the heels of McCutchen's two 2-run home runs the Pittsburgh Pirates turned an otherwise gorgeous Saturday in downtown Detroit into a groaner. And Valverde was nowhere in sight this time.

The Tigers out-hit the Pirates 10-9.  The relievers held on and honestly did a surprising job in stemming a surge in the 9th by Pittsburgh.

But it was not enough.  Even though Detroit sports the BEST W-L record in interl-eague play since it began in 2006, they came up short.

A.J. Burnett did a fair job of reeling in the Tigers, and there were the usual runners stranded in scoring position, but the bats failed to get them to home plate. In fact - the last run by the Tigers was a gift - a passed ball that allowed Miguel Cabrera to stroll in from 3rd.

The Tigers hope to regain a bit of pride Sunday afternoon, and we can suggest a great activity to keep you 'fit' and remaining in front of a screen to see the game.
